On this Sunday, we celebrate our identity as a part of the body of Christ. As we gather on this great feast to worship Christ our Redeemer, we must reflect on how we must live as Christ’s presence in our world today.
In our world today we continue to experience war, violence, the effects of the Coronavirus pandemic, and the struggle for racial justice. These events have all contributed to the breaking of the body of Christ. Sometimes we may think that our efforts are too small compared with the great needs and problems of our times.
We must allow the Holy Spirit, the very breath of God to move us to a deeper understanding of how we can repair our world and the fractures in the body of Christ. The scripture reminds us, “Is not the cup we share a communion with Christ?” We are the body of Christ!
As we share our Eucharistic meal, with Christ at the center, we recognize that this one bread and this one cup is our hope for the world. Blessed, broken, and shared, Jesus calls us to be one with him in the task of renewing the face of the earth.
