Jesus challenges us to be witnesses who will cause others to give God glory by our actions. To be salt and light of the world will be reason enough to have hope in our troubled times.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus reminds us that we are blessed, gifted, strong and a people who trusts in God’s providence. Jesus says, “You are the salt of the earth, and you are the light of the world.” As we let our light shine, we give thanks to God for all that he has done for us.
It is God who heals, preserves, flavors and shines through our lives giving us a second and third chance to be the people of God. Our actions must lead us to form unity within the faith community. We are as precious as salt. We are as bright as light leading all to Christ our Lord.
Our identity as salt of the earth and light of the world must not be taken loosely. Each and every day, we journey closer to living this reality. Even as we struggle, we give witness that God is not finished with us. In all of this, we must give glory to God for all that he has done for us.
