Rev. Francis Kichak, C.S.Sp.

 

Dear Confreres and Spiritan Friends,

 

Rev. Francis Kichak, C.S.Sp., 85, died Monday, January 14 at Golden Living Center, Canonsburg PA.

                                Date of Death:                  January 14, 2013              

 

 

Father Kichak was born September 7, 1927 in Philadelphia PA.  He professed his vows to the Religious Life August 22, 1945 at Holy Ghost Novitiate, Ridgefield CT and was ordained to the priesthood March 26, 1954 at St. Mary Seminary, Ferndale, Norwalk CT.

 

Following his Ordination to the Priesthood in 1954 Father Kichak was assigned Assistant Pastor at Holy Ghost Church, Opelousas LA until 1958 and again (1961-1966).  Between 1958 and 1960 he was the Assistant National Director of the Holy Childhood Association in Pittsburgh PA.  Other assignments included the missions of Puerto Rico (1966-1973), Director of Vocation work for the former US-East Province and for Puerto Rico (1973-76).  He was assigned to various missions in Mexico doing ministry in El Pujal, San Luis Potosi, San Antonio, Tancanhuitz, Ciudad Valles and Coxcatlan from 1976 until his return to the States in 2008.  He obtained retirement status in 2008 and was in residence at Spiritan Retirement homes in Hemet CA and later Bethel Park PA

 

Fr. Kichak is survived by his brother Charles Kichak and many friends in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Mexico.

 

There will be viewing in the chapel of the Spiritan Center, 6230 Brush Run Road, Bethel Park on   Monday, January 21 at 9:00 AM followed by Mass of Resurrection at 10:30 AM and lunch.  Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery, O’Hara Twp., Pittsburgh PA.

Dear Confreres and Lay Spiritans,

 

We regret to inform you that Fr. Phillip Howard, C.S.Sp., died suddenly on Tuesday, December 4, 2012 in New York City at the age of 66.  It seems that he suffered a massive coronary at St. Mark’s parish in Harlem, and despite all efforts of the paramedic team to revive him, he passed away at St. Luke-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City around 3:00 PM EST.

 

Fr. Howard is a member of the Province of Trinidad.  He did ministry both in Trinidad and Asuncion, Paraguay prior to coming to the United States.  He worked in various parishes in the States including St. Joseph’s in Bay City, MI (1991-1992) St. Patrick’s in Charleston, SC (1992-1995) and St. Mary Magdalene in Chicago, IL (1995-1998).  He travelled to Toronto, Canada in 1998 where he ministered until 2002.  Upon his return to the States he served in St. Benedict the Abbot and St. Joseph’s in Houston TX (2002-2005), Our Lady of the Valley in Hemet, (2005-2011)  and since May 2011 as Pastor at St. Mark’s in Harlem NY.

 

He is survived by three sisters, Annette Howard, Edith Whittier and Yvette Rabgir, extended family members and many friends in the U.S., Trinidad, Canada and Paraguay.

 

The Archbishop of Port of Spain, Joseph Harris, C.S.Sp., will preside at the funeral liturgy that will be celebrated at St. Mark’s Church in Harlem on Saturday, December 15 at 11:00 AM.  There will be a viewing and wake service in St. Mark’s Church on Friday evening from 6:00-9:00 PM and on Saturday morning from 9:00-10:30 AM.  Interment will take place at the Spiritan community cemetery in Bensalem, PA.

 

Messages of condolence may be sent to Ms. Annette Howard, 15 Brabant Street, Woodbrook, Port of Spain, Trinidad, West Indies.
